LSUHSC’S Molina Named To NIH Advisory Council

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The physiology chair at the LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans has been named to the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

Dr. Patricia Molina is among 15 people named to the council for a four-year term that ends in October 2016.

Molina studies the interaction of alcohol and drug abuse on the behavioral, metabolic and immune consequences of HIV/AIDS. Work in her laboratory also focuses on the impact of alcohol and drug abuse on the cardiovascular, metabolic and immune consequences of acute traumatic brain injury and hemorrhagic shock.

She recently was awarded a $2.7 million, five-year grant to develop and test a program to curb drinking in people who have a problem with alcohol and also have HIV or AIDS.
