Lafayette Consolidated Government's LUS Fiber is a government owned cable provider available to all citizens of the city of Lafayette... well, almost all citizens. LUS Fiber is still largely unavailable for those living in apartment complexes. Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel joined "Nathan and Bernie in the Morning" to discuss LUS Fiber's availability in apartment complexes and plans to expand in the future.

"The technology just wasn’t there," explained Durel. "We wanted to get the most bang for our buck."

At it's initial launch, LUS Fiber was not available at all to apartment complexes. Since then, the availability of LUS Fiber in apartment complexes is determined on a case to case basis.

In some cases the apartment complex is contracted with an individual cable provider. In some cases the apartment complex leaves it up to the individual dwellers. - Joey Durel

Durel says the evolution of technology since the initial launch of LUS Fiber has made the availability of LUS Fiber in apartment complexes much more feasible.

Durel said, "the technology is getting there. It’s got to start with the apartment complex contacting LUS Fiber."
