TALLULAH, La. (AP) — The city of Tallulah has filed a lawsuit against the Madison Parish Police Jury over its plans to construct a new health center outside the city limits.

The News-Star reports a hearing on the suit will be held on Thursday.

Tallulah, under the direction of Mayor Eddie Beckwith Jr., filed an injunction and a temporary restraining order against the police jury late last week.

Beckwith said the city is working to rehabilitate its downtown area and having the health center, with an estimated 1,000 patients a month, would help spur more economic activity in downtown Tallulah.

The city says the proposed site is invalid because state law requires the health center be built in the parish seat, which is Tallulah.
