A Mamou police officer was arrested for confiscating marijuana and drug paraphernalia and dubiously discarding the evidence following a traffic stop.

According to our news partner KATC, the Mamou Police Officer Christopher Lemaire found marijuana and a bong in a vehicle during an April 1 traffic stop, but he did not process either as evidence.

Lemaire conducted the traffic stop near the intersection of Martin Luther King and Sixth Streets in Mamou. After getting permission to search the vehicle, Lemaire discovered one ounce of marijuana and the bong. He allegedly confiscated the loot, but never did turn it into the precinct.

Lemaire was arrested and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on one count of malfeasance in office.

He was released on a $25,000 bond.
