Jeremy Ashworth, SLPSO

St. Landry Parish authorities arrested Jeremy Ashworth, charging him with attempted first degree murder and second degree robbery, among other charges.

Ashworth allegedly visited an acquaintance's residence in Basile when for unknown reasons, Ashworth attacked the victim with a chair and took his wallet.

As he was trying to flee the scene, the victim grabbed onto the driver's side door but ended up being hit by the vehicle. The victim then called police with a description of the alleged assailant and his vehicle.

Within the following hour, Jennings Police Department spotted a vehicle matching that description and attempted to make a traffic stop. Ashworth allegedly led officers on a short pursuit followed by a foot chase, and was captured a short time later.

St. Landry Parish Captain Megan Vizena informed KPEL that Ashworth was taken into custody and is facing charges of flight from an officer and resisting arrest with Jennings Police Department. She said Ashworth will be transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail with charges of second degree robbery, aggravated battery, and attempted first degree murder.
