A man is currently spending time in jail for allegedly hitting a police officer with a vehicle.  It happened Friday evening when the suspect encountered a plain clothes police officer in the 400 block of University Blvd. in Lafayette.

The suspect began yelling profanities at the police officer and then police say he accelerated his vehicle at the officer.  The officer was able to jump partially out of the way, but was hit on the leg.

The suspect left the scene, but our newspartners at KATC TV-3 are reporting that police caught up to him shortly after at a residence.

The police officer was able to escape with only minor injuries.

The suspect was charged with attempted first degree murder and resisting an officer.
