A man has been arrested for allegedly scamming area people out of their money.

Eunice Police say Joseph Lawrence told his victims he was a member of the National Black Panther Party, then used his false status to collect money from them to help them with their legal matters. But police say, after several victims came forward, they got a hold of emails sent out by the organization saying Lawrence was not a member. Seized during these investigations was an actual computer generated Black Panther Party application with an image of Joseph Lawrence on the front page.

He's now in the Eunice City Jail and is scheduled for line up in court tomorrow morning in Opelousas.
