BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 33-year-old man accused of breaking into a Baton Rouge home and fatally shooting a man Friday morning was taken into custody Saturday following a traffic stop by a State Police trooper in St. John the Baptist Parish.

Cpl. L'Jean McKneely says Corey Pittman was returned to Baton Rouge to be booked with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 35-year-old Kenneth Barton.

McKneely says three men broke into a home Friday and fatally shot Barton. He says Barton was found dead in a nearby canal.

As soon as the shooting happened inside the home, the three men fled the scene on foot. McKneely said other arrests are possible.

It was unclear whether Pittman has an attorney.
