The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office came to the rescue of a man who was thrown out of his boat when he hit a log in the water of While Lake.

The man hung on to a flotation device for five hours, and he had been in the water since 9 o'clock Tuesday morning when marine personnel from the Sheriff's Office were able to get him out of the water.

The man ended up a mile away from where is boat was when he was thrown into the water.

He was rescued at around 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.

The marine personnel were assisted by air support in getting the man to safety.
