NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans fire investigators say a 44-year-old man died in an early morning apartment fire.

Capt. Edwin Holmes tells The Times-Picayune the one-alarm fire was called in about 3:01 a.m. Thursday and the fire was under control at 3:24 a.m.

Holmes says firefighters forced their way into the second floor apartment and found the victim in the main living area. The victim's name has not been released.

Holmes said the fire was contained to the apartment, with smoke damage to the other two apartments in the building. He said the fire was an accident caused by smoking.
