LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — A Lake Charles man has been sentenced in state court three years in prison for vehicular homicide.

The American Press reports Anthony Gary pleaded guilty on March 19.

Calcasieu Parish sheriff's deputies say 50-year-old Russell J. Broussard was struck by a vehicle and knocked into a ditch on April 10, 2010. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police a truck pulling out of a nearby convenience store struck Broussard and sped away.

Gary was arrested at his home, where deputies noticed damage to the front end and hood of his vehicle.

On Thursday, District Judge Mike Canaday sentenced Gary to eight years in prison, with five suspended, and five years of supervised probation upon his released from prison.
