A man involved in a Friday night standoff in New Iberia has been identified as 28-year-old Dwight P. Williams of New Iberia.

Sheriff Louis Ackal said a SWAT team was summoned to the 400 block of Johnston Street in New Iberia Friday around 9:30 p.m., where gunfire was reported. Williams was barricaded in his residence, alongside a women and two children.

Although the reason for the disturbance is unclear, no one was harmed, and a SWAT team negotiator convinced Williams to surrender peacefully.

Williams was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail without bond and charged with illegal discharge of a weapon and felon with possession of a weapon.
