The man indicted for allegedly destroying evidence relating to the BP Oil Spill has pleaded not guilty.

Former BP engineer Kurt Mix is accused of deleting about 300 text messages that indicated the company's blown-out Gulf of Mexico well was spewing far more oil than BP was telling the public. Federal prosecutors say Mix was arrested last week after applying for a green card to Canada in March and planning to travel to Australia "never to return."

Mix faces two counts of obstruction of justice. He was the first and so far only person charged in the Justice Department's probe of the 2010 rig explosion that killed 11 workers and spawned the nation's worst offshore oil spill.
