MONROE, La. (AP) — A Downsville man faces up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to receiving child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Louisiana says 33-yeaer-old Randy A. Powell, who was arrested in October, pleaded guilty Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen L. Hayes to receiving child pornography.

Sentencing is set for April 7.

According to evidence presented at the guilty plea, Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office deputies learned that Powell, who is a registered sex offender, was maintaining social media accounts under an alias, which is a violation of his sex offender registration requirements.

Authorities arrested Powell on Feb. 23 and searched his home.
