Lafayette Police say road rage led to a fight on the side of the road on Christmas Day. It happened before 7:00 p.m. when one man allegedly stabbed another after they got into a fight because the suspect allegedly drove dangerously close to his vehicle.

According to the victim, he was driving on I-10 westbound when an older white panel van allegedly drove too close behind him. After exchanging hand gestures, the victim says both he and the suspect stopped on the shoulder of I-49 at its intersection with Pont de Mouton and began to fight. That's when police say the victim was stabbed several times. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect, described as a white man in his 40s, allegedly climbed back into his van and got away. Police continue to investigate.
