BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Baton Rouge police are investigating a shooting on the Interstate 10 Bridge that left a man in critical condition and snarled Fourth of July traffic for hours.

Cpl. L'Jean McKneely tells The Advocate investigators believe the shooter may have followed the 27-year-old victim as he drove away from a woman's house in Port Allen where the two men had been arguing.

As traffic slowed on the I-10 Bridge, McKneely says a gunman approached and fired multiple shots into the victim's car at about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday before driving away.

McKneely said officers had a suspect in custody but later released him, saying they did not have enough probable cause.

He says the victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition, though he is expected to survive.
