Acadia Parish Sheriff's officials are continuing their investigation into a fatal hit and run crash that took the life of a bicyclist Sunday night.

Acadia Parish Sheriff' K.P. Gibson says officers arrested 42-year-old Ivy J. Roger of Rayne for being the person who struck 61-year-old Ricky Joyner's bicycle last night leading to the man's death.

Gibson's office says records show that Roger has been charged with five different DWI's, and that the man was under suspension for one of the DWI's.

The Sheriff says his officers found Roger's car not to far away from the scene of the crash on Quarter Pole Road, east of Rayne. Gibson says Roger had fled.

Gibson says,

"During the investigation, deputies confirmed the identify of the driver as Roger and with the assistance of Rayne Police, were able to take Roger into custody in Rayne."

Roger would not give up his blood for a test to determine intoxication, but deputies were able to get a search warrant from the blood.

Roger has been booked into jail on the following charges:

  • Hit and Run
  • Operating a vehicle under suspension
  • Vehicular homicide

Whether or not Roger will be charged with DWI depends on the pending results of the blood test.
