Some of the oyster beds that were closed on August 28th in preparation for hurricane Isaac, are beginning to reopen.  The beds that are opening are areas 1-7 and 14-17, both of which are coastal areas of St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Jefferson and Lafourche Parishes.

The areas along the coast of Vermillion and St. Mary have already been reopened, and this weekend brought the reopening of areas near Terrebonne Parish.

As of right now, areas 8-13, 18, 20, 22, 24, and 25 will stay closed until health officials give the okay that the waters are clean and clear.

The Department of Health and Hospitals is monitoring the areas continually. The standards of harvesting are set by the Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference.
