A Houston man taking a fishing trip off the Louisiana coast is now in the state's record books after hauling in a nearly 300 pound fish last weekend.

KMSS reported Wednesday that Cullen Greer caught the 297-pound Warsaw Grouper while fishing near an offshore rig in 500- to 600-feet of water, about 35 miles from the end of the Mississippi River Delta.

The massive fish came  in a 6 feet 6 inches long and six feet in girth. That should place the grouper as the third-largest Warsaw caught in Louisiana, Greer said. That would also make it the fifth-largest ever caught.

The overall record stands at 359.1 pound and was caught in November 2008.
