MONROE, La. (AP) — Republican U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister failed to make a runoff after a kissing scandal tarnished his short tenure in Congress.

Democrat Jamie Mayo, the mayor of Monroe, and Republican Ralph Abraham will face off in the Dec. 6 runoff to determine who will represent the northeast Louisiana-based 5th District.

McAllister initially said he wouldn't run for re-election after he was caught on a leaked security video kissing a woman who was not his wife. But despite calls from Louisiana's Republican leaders to resign, McAllister changed his mind and entered the race.

The congressman drew eight challengers in Tuesday's election. They included Republican Zach Dasher, a political newcomer who is kin to the bearded men of TV's "Duck Dynasty."

Louisiana's 5th District covers all or part of 24 parishes.
