Parish leaders and state officials have come to an agreement that will keep open the Medicaid office in Jefferson Davis Parish.

Police Jury President Donald Woods says the jury will approve an agreement next week that will allow the office to share space with the health unit. Woods says the state Health Department will help cover costs, such as renovation expenses.

Right now, the state currently leases space on North Market Street for the Medicaid office, but it was one of several statewide in danger of being closed because of budget cuts.

The Police Jury was asked to find a way to keep the office open because residents were concerned they would have to drive to Lake Charles or Lafayette to receive services.
