Two people are dead following a weekend crash on I-49.

State police say a Ford Explorer was traveling north on I-49 near the Avoyelles parish line when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed into the grass median and began to turn over. Two passengers were transported to a local hospital, but both died from their injuries.

The driver, witnesses say, fled on foot. He is described as an hispanic male in his mid-twenties wearing a dark blue short sleeve shirt and khaki pants. He may have injuries to his head or nose. If you have any information, please contact state police at 337.262.5880.
