Just before 7 o'clock last night, State Police say 37-year-old Christopher Legros was driving his car eastbound on Highway 90 at a high rate of speed on went off of the road.

Troopers say Legros' car struck a tree.  The man was not wearing a seat belt, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner's office.

A passenger in his car, 19-year-old Mariah Davis of Jennings, suffered moderate injuries.  She was wearing a seat belt and taken to hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Troopers say routine toxicology tests were submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, and the crash remains under investigation.

Trooper Stephen Hammons says that people not buckling up continues to be a factor in fatal crashes across Acadiana.

He points out that while wearing a seat belt will not save you in every crash, it will reduce your risk of injury in most crashes.
