METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Jefferson Parish deputies say a 35-year-old Metairie man is dead and his friend has been booked with negligent homicide following an accidental shooting.

Col. John Fortunato says Garland Stockman was pronounced dead Wednesday night shortly after he was rushed into surgery at Ochsner Medical Center.

Fortunato says Stockman been shot once in the chest, and then dropped off at the hospital by his friend, 25-year-old Dru Lilley of Jefferson. He says Lilley first told investigators that Stockman had been shot while the two were in New Orleans. But Lilley changed his story.

Fortunato says Lilley eventually admitted that the pair was in Metairie when the shooting occurred.

The Times-Picayune reports Lilley was booked Thursday with negligent homicide and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
