Michael Desormeaux Talks Blue Gators & Cajuns

After spending some time as an assistant coach at Catholic-New Iberia, former Ragin' Cajun star quarterback Michael Desormeaux became a head coach last season when he took over the Ascension Episcopal Blue Gator football program. He took a team that finished 1-9 the season before and led them to a .500 season and a trip to the Division IV playoffs.

Coach Desormeaux joined Brandon Comeaux on ESPN 1420's "Off the Bench" to talk about his team. He touched on the transition from player to coach, the oddity of playing a district opponent (Hanson) in the Kiwanis Jamboree, the players he expects to lead the way for him on both sides of the ball and his excitement for the Ragin' Cajuns football program.

"Success is great but what's exciting to me is all the support for UL...if you go in that stadium, you can feel the intensity. I love it! I love to be around the program. It's a lot of fun to see those guys have the success they are having."

So, what can people expect from a Michael Desormeaux-coached team?

"Our kids are going to fly around...they are going to run to the football and they're going to play hard every snap...You can't always control (everything), but you can always control that effort and energy level. That's one thing that we demand is high energy, great effort. That's something we can't do without."
