LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) — The Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office confirms the body of Mickey Shunick has been returned to her family for burial.

Delhomme Funeral Home will handle the arrangements. An obituary posted on the funeral home’s website says a “celebration of life” will be held at a later date, and the public will be notified when those arrangements are finalized.

“We’ll have a private burial,” Tom Shunick, Mickey’s father, said Friday after Brandon Scott Lavergne pleaded guilty to her murder. “Hopefully we can have something for the public, too because it’s not just about us now. She’s become Lafayette’s child.”

Shunick indicated such arrangements would be made in the next couple weeks.
