The Games of Acadiana are right around the corner, and people are already starting to get excited.

Lacey Shelton, with Miles Perret Cancer Services, said the games, which will be held at the Cajundome on Aug. 16, will feature more than 60 games and activities.

Miles Perret, whom the Games of Acadiana benefit, provides no-cost non-medical support services to anyone in the area who has been diagnosed with cancer, Shelton said.

"This event got started before the center was ever opened, and the first games were so successful 14 years ago, the center was allowed to be open a year later," Shelton said.

To take part, "you just show up," she added.
