According to the Associated Press, the man accused of robbing and killing the Catholic Priest from Hammond might have been in jail if it weren't for a mix-up between the state prisons and court systems. 31-year-old Jeremy Manieri served a year for molesting a child in 2006, but never registered as a sex offender, for which he served another 16 months. Following his release he failed to report to his
probation officer. That should have sent him back to jail. The Mississippi Department of corrections says they got the paperwork from the clerk but a computer glitch kept it from reaching his probation officer.
