Moms Form Group To Increase Parental Involvement

Two moms from Lafayette are working to increase parental involvement in local schools.

Heather Blanchard and Erin Ryan have started the group, Parents Empowered.

The group has a goal of trying to strengthen the communication between schools and parents.

Blanchard says one of the first things they will try to accomplish is to share different ways that parents can get involved with their school.

She says some parents may choose to take an advocacy role and others may want to contribute directly in classrooms.

Blanchard says Parents Empowered will work to find at least one representative from each Lafayette Parish school, and they will work to better understand the structure at each school.
