Good thing the LHSAA ruled Armand "Mondo" Duplantis eligible for the Texas Relays on Saturday, because all he did was break a world record.

For the second straight year, Duplantis set the world junior pole vaulting record at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin on Saturday. The Lafayette High Senior bested his personal high mark from last year (19-4.25) with a vault of 19-5, doing so on his third and final attempt at that height.

The LSU signee would finish third in the elite pole vaulting division, behind France's Renaud Lavillenie and Canada's Shawn Barbe.

As you may recall, Duplantis' status was up in the air as the Louisiana High School Athletic Association said he would be violating a rule if he competed in the elite division while the high school track and field competition was ongoing. However, a one-time waiver was given for him to compete in the Texas Relays.

Duplantis can now turn his attention to the remainder of his senior year, where he'll try to win his fourth outdoor state title in pole vaulting. (He already owns four indoor state titles in that event.)

Duplantis is quite the athlete. He recently won the parish title in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.69. And he also finished second at the state meet last year in the long jump.
