While most Acadiana-area schools are set to resume classes for Friday Jan. 19, maintenance crews will be working diligently to ensure the cold weather has not left schools in need of emergency repairs.

Public schools in Lafayette, Acadia and St. Mary Parishes will be open on Friday.

Lafayette Parish Schools Superintendent Donald Aguillard told our news partners at KATC, maintenance crews, school custodians, and building administrative teams have all been busy this afternoon assessing any cold weather-related issues on campuses. Those crews will be on standby Friday morning to address any issues.

In St. Landry Parish, schools will also resume classes, except for Grand Coteau Elementary which will remained closed due to a broken water line. The break has been repaired but, crews are working to dry up the remaining water from the school's cafeteria.

In St. Martin Parish, schools will be closed because of broken water lines at various schools.

In Iberia Parish, schools will be closed because of water-related issues.

In Evangeline Parish, schools will be open except for Basile High and Stewart Elementary.

Some other school districts in Acadiana are awaiting reports from maintenance crews to determine if classes will resume Friday.
