Mother Nature Could Be A Major Player In NCAA Regional Baseball This Weekend
There are two regional rounds in the 2016 NCAA Baseball tournament scheduled this weekend that are less than 60 miles apart. The Lafayette Regional and the Baton Rouge Regional. Both of these tournament rounds should produce some great baseball, if Mother Nature cooperates.
Both stadiums, the University of Louisiana's M.L. Tigue Moore Field and LSU's Alex Box Stadium and Skip Bertman Field are state of the art facilities. They handle rainfall very well and unless there is a huge downpour. Even with a downpour both facilities drain very well and a return to play shouldn't be delayed any longer than absolutely necessary.
The wild card in the weekend weather scenario is lightning. There are NCAA rules about playing when lightning is detected within so many miles of a stadium. You can bet NCAA officials will be keeping a close monitor on that possibility. They will be vigilant not only for the safety of players but the safety of the thousands of fans who are expected to attend the weekend's activities.
