NEW ORLEANS (AP) — St. Charles Parish authorities investigating the death of a 16-year-old girl have arrested her mother's longtime, live-in boyfriend.

Sheriff Greg Champagne, at a news conference Monday in Hahnville, says 40-year-old Daniel Beckley faces a charge of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice in the death of Jorion White, whose body was found in a drainage ditch in St. Rose, about seven miles from her home in Kenner.

Champagne says White was last seen April 21. Her family reported her missing the next evening.

The sheriff says Beckley was developed as a suspect early in the case being that he was the last known adult to have care, custody and control of White.

Champagne says White's death has been ruled a homicide, but no details on motive have been released.
