The planned closure of U.S. 90 south of New Iberia to move a live oak has been postponed. Officials with the state Department of Transportation and Development say the closure had been planned to
allow workers to move the tree from the path of a service road near Freyou Road to a new home at the La. 83 exit ramp near New Iberia. The tree has stood in its current spot for about 150 years. According to DOTD, the company hired to dig up and move the oak is having unexpected trouble lifting the tree in preparation for the
move. No new date has been set for the move.
