Mr. Al, the massive oak tree that stood beside US Route 90 in Iberia Parish, was moved this morning. Lauren Lee with the Department of Transportation and Development says the community petitioned DOTD to move the tree instead of chop it down. There is a service road that stopped on either side of Mr. Al and the state was originally planning to cut the tree down to make way for the road. Lee says there were three options to save the tree, one was to keep the dead end on either side of the tree which she says would have impeded commerce. Mr. Al was moved to the Jefferson Interchange. Lee says the cost of the project is about $300,000.
