Truck Driver Declared Brain Dead In Jefferson Davis Parish Crash Involving Charter Bus

Update: Anthony Pitre, Sr., the pickup truck driver, has been declared brain dead by the Jefferson Davis Parish Coroner's Office.

A collision between a charter bus and a pickup truck sent several people to the hospital on Wednesday.

La. State Police say it happened on U.S. Highway 165 at La. Highway 101 about three miles north of Iowa. The bus, driven by Amos Monts of San Antonio, was heading in from Texas to Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder when troopers say a pickup truck driven by Anthony Pitre, Sr. of Lake Charles failed to yield the right of way to the bus and was struck on the side.

Troopers say Pitre went to the hospital with serious injuries, while Monts was not injured. However, 7 of the 46 passengers on the bus were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and the crash remains under investigation.
