Next Tuesday law enforcement agencies around Acadiana and the United States will hold celebrations for the "National Night Out Against Crime 2014".

Lafayette Police are inviting residents to join in their crime prevention event which will be held Tuesday, August 5 at the Girard Park Pavilion and Martin Luther King Center between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The event will feature:

  • Music
  • Entertainment
  • Fun Jumps
  • Food
  • Games
  • Displays

The Lafayette Police Department with be participating along with the Lafayette Fire Department, the Lafayette Sheriff's Office, the Lafayette Police Department SWAT Team, Horse Patrol, Motorcycle Unit, Bicycle Patrol and the Police Command Bus.

Target, a corporate sponsor, will be assisting with "National Night Out".

The annual crime prevention event is celebrated by 37 million people in over 15,000 communities across America.

The goal of the night is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, to get people involved in help to prevent crime, to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods will fight back against crime, and to build relationships between people and law enforcement.

There will be events held at:

  • Girard Park
  • The Martin Luther King Center in Lafayette
  • City of Broussard

It won't cost you anything to participate as the event is free and open to the public.
