National Voter Registration Day was founded in 2012 before the presidential election to get people in all 50 states who are not registered to vote to do so.

The League of Women Voters in Lafayette will be registering people to vote next Tuesday, September 27 as a way to celebrate the day.

Their statistics show that over 650,000 people have signed up to vote since the start of National Voter Registration Day.

There will be registration drives at local high schools, and one is also scheduled for  JW Faulk Elementary's Parent/Teacher Confernce Day.
