LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- Gov. Bobby Jindal's proposed capital outlay budget includes nearly $28 million in funds for higher education and infrastructure improvements in Lafayette and it's surrounding communities.

“These investments in Southwest Louisiana continue our commitment to higher education, and they will help improve the region’s infrastructure," Jindal said. "By investing in our universities and in infrastructure projects, we are showing our commitment to moving Louisiana forward so that our state is the best place in the country to live, work and raise a family.”

The proposed capital outlay includes $2.85 million in funding for repairs to Fletcher Hall at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette; $375,000 for the installation of water and sewer lines along the Apollo Road Extension in Lafayette Parish; and $2.8 million for the construction of a community center in Youngsville.

The outlay bill, known as HB 2, is traditionally presented to the state legislature on the eighth day of the legislative session.
