UL senior shortstop Nerissa Myers

 

Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns senior shortstop Nerissa Myers was named to USA Softball’s “Watch List” for the 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award on Friday.

The Petal, Mississippi native hit a .391 in 2012, with 13 homers. She led the country in runs scored, with 83, and finished third in the nation with 79 RBI's.

Defensively., Myers had a strong fielding percentage, finishing at a .945, committing only 10 errors in 2012. Over the last two seasons, Myers has committed only 15 errors on 377 chances.

Myers was rewarded for all of great numbers last season, being named a first team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, a first team NFCA All-Central Region selection, and an NFCA/Louisville Slugger Division I All-America selection.

This season, Myers begins the year as one of 50 players named to this "Watch List" for softball's top player honor, The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, which is now in it's 12th year, and given out annually by the National Governing Body for softball in the United States.

The Top 25 Finalists for the award will be announced April 10, with the Top 10 Finalists being unveiled May, and the Top 3 Finalists being announced on May 22.

The 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed on May 28, prior to the 2013 Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Cajuns, led by Myers enter year ranked #11 in the country, and open up their 2013 season on Saturday, February 9, as they take part in the  Hilton Plaza Classic in Houston, Texas.
