Traffic congestion and public transportation have long been sore subjects in the Hub City. Lafayette officials are hoping changes to public bus routes can help aid both.

Lafayette Chief Development Officer Kevin Blanchard stopped by ‘Nathan and Bernie in the Morning‘ for our weekly ‘Lafayette Live‘ segment to discuss recent changes to public transportation.

Overall, we’re going to find out that this was a positive change for the system

"We’ve recently changed four of our routes," says Blanchard. "There are now three routes that hit the Johnson Street corridor that hit UL."

Focusing on providing public transportation for UL students has been a major point of emphasis for Lafayette Consolidated Government. Officials hope to allow UL students to ride public buses for free in an effort to alleviate traffic around campus.

Blanchard admits that the changes in bus routes have not been without growing pains.

"We are definitely aware of all the hiccups," says Blanchard. "Overall, we’re going to find out that this was a positive change for the system."
