New Iberia Explosion

A deputy with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office says there has been a major explosion at Multi Chem, a business on Admiral Doyle near the Acadiana Regional Airport. State Police have confirmed that all businesses within a one-mile radius of the airport have been evacuated. Sources also tell KPEL News that Highway 182 at Admiral Doyle is blocked off. Detour routes are Highway 90 or Smede Highway. Also closed:

Highway 88 at Freeman Rd.

Admiral Doyle at Landry Drive

State Police say there are no injuries. Everyone is safe and accounted for.

UL spokesperson Christine Payton says all employees at the UL Primate Research Center are safe and accounted for.
