The owner of a closed landfill has agreed that he will pay $73,904 and at least $150,000 for environmental cleanup work at the site as part of a settlement with Louisiana's Department of Environmental Quality.

Businessman Gordon Doerle is the owner of Gordon's Disposal Company.  He and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality have agreed to a settlement even they it has not yet been finalized.

The deal being worked on settles several alleged violations at the landfill that was closed in 2009.  It also settles issues with the on-site waste transfer station from 2004.

The landfill borders both St. Martin and Iberia parishes.  Residents in the area have fought the facility since it was built in 1994.
