NEW IBERIA, La. (KPEL) -- State Police have arrested a 60-year-old New Iberia man on charges that he had child pornography on his computer.

State Police Trooper Stephen Hammons said police had been investigating Paul Smith after receiving a tip earlier this month that he had the porn on his computer and that he was distributing it.

"Last week, detectives served the search warrant at Smith’s home and seized several digital media storage devices," Hammon said. "During a preliminary search of the devices, detectives located several movies which depicted child pornography."

Police issued a warrant for Smith's arrest Monday, Hammons said, and he was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.

Smith faces charges of child pornography possession and distribution.
