New Iberia Man Facing Animal Cruelty Charges
A New Iberia man has been arrested by Sheriff's Deptuies after police say that they found a slew of pigs and dogs that were barely living. The police allege that the forty-six pets were having to do without food and water.
Captain Ryan Turner's information is that 40-year-old Tora Benoit of New Iberia found 24 dogs and 22 pigs without what they needed for survival.
Investigators say deputies were tipped off about a possible problem due to the bad smell. Deputies who went to the scene say the animals were in "atrocious circumstances". There was even one dead animal on Benoit's property.
Tora Benoit was booked 46 counts of animal cruelty and then two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.
