SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Police in Shreveport, La., have arrested a New Mexico man they say robbed a bank.

The Times reports police arrested 22-year-old Timothy Mathew of Santa Fe, N.M. shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Police believe Mathew entered the Capital One bank just after 2:30 p.m. where he approached a clerk and claimed he was armed with a gun.

Sgt. Bill Goodin says officers believe Mathew received an undisclosed amount of cash and ran from the bank on foot.

Shortly after the robbery, Goodin says a plainclothes officer saw a man fitting the robber's description. When officers approached the man, later identified as Mathew, he attempted to run from officers but was quickly captured.

Mathew was booked with simple robbery, resisting an officer, and attempted simple escape.
