An engineering firm has been selected to build a new power plant in Morgan City that will provide power for 10 cities.Burns and Roe of New Jersey was picked from 11 engineering firms vying for the job to design the plant. The plant is expected to come on line by June 2015, according to the Louisiana Energy and Power Authority, the consortium of public utilities heading up the project.

The power plant would be a so-called combined-cycle generator that is fueled by natural gas but also captures and uses steam from the generator to create more power. Ten municipalities are pooling their resources to pay for the design of the new plant and possibly share the generated electricity.
