More and more travelers are choosing New Orleans as their vacation destination. Kristian Sonnier with the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau says the Big Easy is now the second most popular destination for international travelers, behind New York City. But he says the number of international visitors is growing much faster in New Orleans.

“New York grew its market share for international visitors by 2%, while at the same time New Orleans grew its market share of international visitors by 37%,” Sonnier said.

Sonnier says New Orleans was also ranked at the top of the list for food and music travel destinations by two prestigious magazines.

“We were just named the number one city for food in the US by readers of Travel & Leisure magazine, and we’re also listed as a top 5 music destination in the world by Elle magazine UK,” Sonnier said.

Sonnier says they have been hard at work making New Orleans a world-class travel destination for visitors both here and abroad.

“That shows us that our strategy is working. We’ve been working very hard here at the CVB to make New Orleans a more attractive city,” Sonnier said.
