New Orleans-bound Greyhound Passenger Found With Dead Child
ATLANTA - Police say a young mother who arrived in Atlanta on a bus with her 2-year-old daughter was found weeping near the bus station, holding her toddler who was later pronounced dead.
Authorities say the child and her 19-year-old mother were traveling from Greenville, South Carolina, to New Orleans, and the bus made a scheduled stop in Atlanta.
Atlanta police Capt. Terrell Griffin tells WXIA-TV that two women saw the mother holding the girl and crying on a bridge near the Atlanta Greyhound station around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Griffin said the woman told the bystanders her child was "cold," and one of them called police. The baby was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police are investigating, but Griffin told WXIA that the mother is not currently considered a suspect.
