NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A New Orleans woman arrested in the death of her 3-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter is expected to make her initial court appearance Thursday.

The children were found by their grandmother in their New Orleans apartment around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the boy had been shot and the daughter had been drowned.

The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Chelsea Thornton. She was booked Wednesday night with two counts of first-degree murder.

In a court record, police said the boy was shot in the head and drowned in the bathtub. Police said the girl was drowned in the tub after the gun failed to fire again.
